Short answer. Since 11 April 2026 the speaking part of the Czech A2 exam for permanent residence lasts up to 15 minutes and is worth 40 points; you need 24. The tasks: 8 questions on 2 everyday topics, 2 dialogues where you ask the questions, a story about 4 pictures in the past tense, and choosing 1 of 3 options with the examiner as a friend; there is no preparation time.
The speaking part follows the written part on the same day. There are three people in the room: one asks the questions and two score you. You answer straight away, with no time to prepare. For the format, points, registration and fee, see the guide to the Czech A2 exam for permanent residence. This page is about what to say in each task. The requirements come from the official NPI ČR checklist Na co si dát pozor (2026).
| Task | What you do | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Answering questions | 8 questions, 4 on each of two topics | 8 |
| 2. Dialogues | 2 cards, you ask 4 questions on each, formal “you” | 12 |
| 3. Story from pictures | 4 pictures, past tense | 10 |
| 4. Solving a situation | agree with a “friend” on 1 of 3 options, informal “you” | 7 |
| Pronunciation | across the whole speaking part | 3 |
Task 1: questions on two topics
You know the topics in advance, not the questions. There is no official topic list. The model tests say that all topics come from everyday life, for example housing, travel, food and drink, shopping, weather, work, free time, education and health. Prepare the neighbouring ones too: family, friends, your town, transport, holidays, life in the Czech Republic.
The rules from the checklist: answer with a whole sentence that has a verb, answer the question word (where, when, why) and use the tense of the question. “V kině.” is weak; “Včera večer jsem byl v kině.” is right. If you did not understand, ask for a repeat: Můžete to prosím zopakovat?
Sample topic: Práce (work).
- Kde pracujete? — Pracuju jako kuchař v restauraci v centru města.
- Jak jezdíte do práce? — Do práce jezdím tramvají, cesta trvá dvacet minut.
- Co jste dělal, než jste přišel do České republiky? — Než jsem přišel do České republiky, pracoval jsem ve své zemi jako řidič.
- Jakou práci byste chtěl dělat za pět let? — Za pět let bych chtěl mít vlastní malou kavárnu.
Women answer with feminine past forms: koupila, pracovala, přišla, chtěla. Watch the tense: a question in the past gets a past answer, a question about the future gets budu kupovat, not kupuju.
Task 2: dialogues where you ask
The card shows a situation and three prompts; you make up the fourth question yourself. The other person is a stranger, so use the formal “you”: máte, můžete, víte. Points are lost on the wrong question word: to ask about the time you say V kolik hodin…?, not “Kolik čas”.
Sample card: Jste v cestovní kanceláři. Chcete jet s rodinou k moři. (You are at a travel agency and want a seaside trip with your family.) Prompts: Termín? · Kč za osobu? · Jídlo? · …? (vaše otázka)
Tazatel: Dobrý den, co pro vás můžu udělat?
Uchazeč: Dobrý den. Máte volný termín v srpnu?
Tazatel: Ano, máme zájezd od desátého do sedmnáctého srpna.
Uchazeč: Kolik to stojí za jednu osobu?
Tazatel: Osmnáct tisíc korun.
Uchazeč: Je jídlo v ceně?
Tazatel: Ano, snídaně a večeře jsou v ceně.
Uchazeč: Můžeme vzít s sebou psa?
Tazatel: Bohužel ne, do hotelu psi nesmějí.
Uchazeč: Dobře, děkuju.
Questions that fit almost any card: Kolik to stojí? · Jak dlouho to trvá? · Můžu platit kartou? · Kde je…? · Máte to i v jiné barvě?
Task 3: a story about four pictures
Say what the people in the pictures did yesterday. Use all four pictures, at least one sentence each, only the past tense, and talk about them, not about yourself. If a picture is unclear, ask.
Sample: Stěhování. Co včera dělala rodina Svobodových? (Moving house. What did the Svoboda family do yesterday?)
Ráno rodina Svobodových balila věci do krabic. Potom přijelo velké auto a muž a jeho kamarád nosili krabice a nábytek do auta. Odpoledne jeli do nového bytu, žena uklízela kuchyň a děti si vybalovaly hračky. Večer byli všichni unavení, ale šťastní. Objednali si pizzu a jedli na podlaze, protože ještě neměli stůl.
Five sentences, the linking words ráno, potom, odpoledne, večer and protože: that is enough for A2. A common slip is balí instead of balila, the present tense instead of the past.
Task 4: agree with a friend
The examiner plays your friend, so use the informal “you”: máš, chceš, můžeme, půjdeme. The picture shows three options; suggest all three in turn. The examiner turns down the first two and asks why about the third. Explain with protože.
Sample: V neděli spolu půjdeme na oběd. Kam půjdeme? (Where shall we go for Sunday lunch?) The picture shows a pizzeria, a Vietnamese bistro and a Czech restaurant.
Tazatel: Máš nápad, kam půjdeme? Můžeš vybírat z těchto možností.
Uchazeč: Můžeme jít do pizzerie.
Tazatel: Pizza mi moc nechutná.
Uchazeč: Tak můžeme jít do vietnamského bistra.
Tazatel: Tam je v neděli zavřeno.
Uchazeč: A co restaurace s českou kuchyní?
Tazatel: A proč myslíš, že je to dobrý nápad?
Uchazeč: Protože je blízko a v neděli tam vaří svíčkovou.
What “330 otázek” is
Searches often turn up “330 otázek a odpovědí”. It is a paid collection by a private teacher for task 1 of the old format, which had 10 questions on one topic. It is not an official list. NPI ČR does not publish the questions: each of the two model tests has 8 sample questions. The bank of 300 questions belongs to the civics test for citizenship, not to permanent residence.
How to practise
- Every day, answer 4 questions on one topic out loud, in whole sentences, in three tenses.
- For task 2, rehearse questions rather than answers: price, time, address, conditions.
- In the evening, tell in the past tense what someone in your family did that day.
- Compare yourself with the video samples in the official Test nanečisto and the sample answers in model tests 1 and 2.
Talkfirst has a mock speaking part, in beta. The bank holds 70 tasks: 24 topics, 24 cards, 10 stories and 12 situations. You answer out loud with no preparation time. The examiner's lines are pre-recorded and do not react to what you say. The AI scores the transcript within the official maxima of 8, 12, 10 and 7 points; it is a forecast, not an exam decision. Pronunciation is not scored, so “would pass” starts at 60 % of 37 points. Free includes 35 voice minutes a week and one full mock exam every 7 days. More on the Czech for permanent residence page.

Everyday ones: housing, travel, food and drink, shopping, weather, work, free time, education, health and similar. There is no closed list; each attempt has two topics with 4 questions each.

Yes. The NPI checklist says you can ask for a repeat and ask what a word means. There is no preparation time; you answer straight away.
How many points do I need in the speaking part?
24 of 40, which is 60 %. Three of the 40 points are for pronunciation. If you fail the speaking part, you retake the whole exam.
