Czech A2

The A2 exam for permanent residence

To get permanent residence in Czechia after 5 years you need a certificate of Czech at A2 (unless you are exempt, for example under 15 or 60 and over). The exam format changed on 11 April 2026: some writing and speaking tasks are new, the points totals stayed the same.

Format from 11 April 2026
  1. Reading25 points, 40 minutes
  2. Writing20 points, 25 minutes: a form and an e-mail
  3. Listening25 points, about 35–40 minutes
  4. Speaking40 points, up to 15 minutes, four tasks plus pronunciation
60 %needed in each part: 42 of 70 for the written part and 24 of 40 for speaking
  1. Speaking: answer 8 questions on two topics, ask the examiner questions in two dialogues, tell a story from four pictures in the past tense, and agree on one of three options. There is no preparation time.
  2. The exam costs 3,200 CZK. You register online and wait on a list until you get a date; failing either part means retaking the whole exam.
  3. Talkfirst has a mock speaking part (beta): all four tasks, answered out loud with no preparation time; the examiner’s lines are prerecorded and do not react to your answers. AI scores the transcript within the official task maxima of 8, 12, 10 and 7 points, with feedback in English; the criteria inside each task are our scale based on NPI ČR materials. Pronunciation (3 points) cannot be judged from a transcript, so “would pass” is from 60 % of 37 points. There is no mock written part: use the free official model tests on the exam website. On Free, one full mock exam every 7 days.

With your AI agent

Learn Czech with Claude or ChatGPT

Connect Talkfirst to Claude or ChatGPT as a connector: your assistant stays the tutor, and your words, recordings, plan and progress live in one account. Start with how to learn Czech with an AI agent.

Words into your vocabulary

Give the agent words from a letter, a chat or a conversation review: it saves them to your vocabulary and flashcards and quizzes you on them.

Pronunciation check

A recording window right in the chat scores every word of your recording, and the agent explains the main mistakes.

Lectures from the agent

Ask for a short audio lesson on a topic: it is built on the server and waits in the Lessons tab for you to listen later.

A study plan

Weekly targets for speech minutes, quizzes, conversations and lessons; the server counts what you actually did.

The app

The web app and Telegram show the same words, plan and progress that the agent sees in the chat.
