How to learn Czech
with an AI agent

Claude and ChatGPT explain Czech well. What they lack is a memory of what you learned, an ear for how you sound and a way to bring words back. Here is how to add that, block by block, and how to run your first session in 15 minutes.

Updated October 20, 2026

Short answer. Use the AI agent you already have, Claude or ChatGPT, for what it does best: explaining, role-play and rephrasing. Connect Talkfirst so the agent can save your Czech words into flashcards, score your pronunciation word by word, build audio lessons and keep a weekly plan that the next chat still knows. Voice practice, quizzes and the A2 mock speaking exam then also work in the Talkfirst app in the browser and in Telegram.

Many people learning Czech already have a capable tutor open in another tab. Claude or ChatGPT will explain a letter from the foreign police, play a landlord on the phone and tell you why it is Bydlím v Brně and not Brno. The trouble starts the next day: the chat does not remember which words you learned, cannot hear how you said them and will not bring them back next week.

This section is about closing that gap without giving up the agent. The idea is simple: the agent thinks and explains, and Talkfirst, connected to it, stores, listens and delivers.

What a plain agent lacks

  • A record. Its memory holds notes about you, not a log of what you learned and when to review it. A new chat starts almost from scratch.
  • An ear that grades. Voice mode tries to understand you, not to score you, so a short vowel instead of a long one or a pause before every verb goes unnoticed.
  • A schedule. Words you met once fade unless something brings them back.

How to connect Talkfirst

Claude

  1. Open Claude in the browser or in the desktop app.
  2. Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  3. URL: https://mcp.talkfirst.io/mcp.
  4. Sign in with a code sent to your email or with Telegram. A new email creates a free account.
  5. In the Talkfirst app, choose Czech. The tools work in your active language; you switch the course in the app.

ChatGPT

  1. Turn on developer mode: Settings → Apps → Advanced settings.
  2. Create an app with the URL https://mcp.talkfirst.io/mcp and OAuth sign-in.
  3. Sign in to Talkfirst the same way, with an email code or Telegram.

Whether developer mode is available depends on your ChatGPT plan and region. Voice windows work in Claude on the web and in the desktop app; in the Claude mobile apps connector windows have no microphone, so voice practice on the phone happens in the Talkfirst app. Current steps are in the docs.

From then on, at the start of a session the agent reads what's due today, your profile, notes and plan, and the Talkfirst docs on the topic. That is why it “remembers” you in a new chat.

Six blocks

1. Give the agent your words

The most important habit. Paste a letter, describe a work situation or open a deck, and the agent saves Czech words and phrases into your vocabulary and flashcards in one go. They come back through spaced repetition and quizzes: recognition, recall, listening and speaking.

2. Let it hear your pronunciation

A recording window in the chat gives an overall score, a score for every word and what speech recognition heard. It is a word-level score, not an analysis of individual sounds, and in conversations it is joined by your pauses before specific words.

3. Ask for lessons

“A five-minute lesson on the doctor's visit” becomes an audio lesson with Czech phrases in a Czech voice, slides and three ways to take it. Czech has no ready-made lesson library yet, so the agent builds each one on request.

4. Keep a plan

A weekly plan up to 12 weeks ahead, with goals the server counts by itself, and a rough pace estimate towards your target level and date. No promises of “A2 in N weeks”.

5. Use the app where it all lives

The browser and the Telegram Mini App share one account with the connector: conversations with scenes, quizzes, lessons, the vocabulary and the Czech A2 mock speaking exam (beta).

6. Choose the setup

A plain chat, Talkfirst alone or the pair — what each gives and lacks, honestly.

A quiz window in the chat: a word and four answer options, the correct one ticked.

A Talkfirst quiz window on the Polish course. A frame from our test setup, not a screenshot of a live chat; quizzes on Czech words look the same.

Your first session in 15 minutes

With the connector set up, type these one by one.

1. Introduce yourself

Read my profile and what's due today. I'm a beginner in Czech, I live in the Czech Republic and I need A2 for permanent residence. Explain in English and keep it short.

The agent reads your data and offers to save your level and goal to the profile.

2. Save your first words

Save these to my vocabulary: Dobrý den, Jak se jmenujete?, Jmenuji se, Odkud jste?, Mluvím trochu česky.

These are from the A1 meeting people deck: Mluvím trochu česky means “I speak a little Czech”.

3. Say one out loud

Give me a pronunciation window for “Mluvím trochu česky”.

Listen to Reference, record, look at the score of each word.

4. Quiz yourself

Quiz me on those five words: first recognise them, then say them out loud.

5. Agree a plan

Suggest a 4-week plan for my goal, with speaking minutes, quizzes and conversations each week. Show it before saving.

After that, try a voice conversation in the Meeting people scene in the app, and the next chat will start from what you did. A route from zero to A2 is in how to learn Czech from zero to A2; the exam itself is in the Czech A2 exam guide. All guides: Czech guides. About the course: Talkfirst for Czech.

Questions

Can I learn Czech with ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes, as a conversation partner and explainer they are good. To keep words, check pronunciation and follow a plan across chats, connect Talkfirst or keep those records yourself.

Does the connector work in the Claude mobile app?

The text tools do. Connector windows in the Claude mobile apps have no microphone, so record and talk in the Talkfirst app in the browser or in Telegram; the agent sees the results.

Is Czech fully ready in Talkfirst?

Czech is in beta: A1 and A2 decks, three free conversation scenes and a mock speaking exam are there, and decks and scenes may still contain mistakes. Lessons are built by the agent on request.

How much does it cost?

Talkfirst Free has 35 voice minutes a week, 210 new voicings, ready-made scenes and a full mock exam once every 7 days. Pro has 140 minutes a week, all scenes and your own topic for 500 Telegram stars per 30 days.
