Speaking Polish with AI:
alternatives to Duolingo, Speak and Praktika

Which apps let you actually hold a conversation in Polish, what they correct, whether they help with the B1 exam and what they cost. Every fact checked on the developer's site or in the App Store in October 2026.

Updated October 19, 2026

Short answer. Of the three big names, only Praktika offers Polish conversation: it lists Polish among its 14 languages. Speak has no Polish course, and Duolingo teaches Polish from English but does not list Polish for its Video Call and Roleplay features. For conversation practice in Polish, pick Talkpal for the most free minutes, Praktika for avatar tutors, Kalbo AI for an iPhone app focused on Polish and the Baltic languages, Polish B1 Exam Prep or Talkfirst for the oral B1 exam for EU long-term residence.

We make Talkfirst, one of the apps below, so we say plainly where the others are better. This page covers only apps where you speak or write in Polish and an AI answers. Lesson apps, flashcards, exam tests and tutors are in the full review of Polish apps. Facts come from each developer's site, help centre or US App Store page; we checked them on 13 and 19 October 2026. Prices are in the currency the source showed.

Duolingo, Speak and Praktika: is there Polish?

Duolingo has one Polish course, taught from English, according to its course list on 19 October 2026. Its lessons include short speaking exercises, but its conversation features are listed for other languages: Roleplay for Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese in the Max announcement, Video Call for nine languages in a January 2026 post. Polish is in neither list. More in Polish on Duolingo.

Speak has no Polish. Its FAQ says English speakers can learn Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese, Italian and Simplified Chinese, and the app also teaches English.

Praktika does have Polish. Its help centre article "Which languages can I study on Praktika?" lists 14 languages, Polish last, and the App Store description mentions it too.

How to choose

  • Feedback after you speak. A partner who only keeps the conversation going lets you repeat the same mistake for weeks. Look for corrections you can read after the conversation: which word, which ending, a better way to say it.
  • Your language for explanations. Polish cases are hard to understand from an explanation in a language you only half know.
  • Formal address. Everyday Polish with strangers, officials and examiners uses Pan and Pani. A partner that only says ty trains the wrong habit for the exam.
  • The exam. For residence, check whether the app follows the B1 exam format: an oral part of up to 15 minutes, with at least 50 % needed to pass.

Talkfirst

Talkfirst is a voice trainer for spoken Polish: no grammar first, you start talking from A1. You speak out loud with an AI partner on everyday topics or in scenes, and after each conversation you see your pauses and mistakes explained in English, Russian or Ukrainian. Words from your conversations go into flashcards. The oral B1 mock exam has three tasks, a picture, a monologue and a role-play dialogue, with a score in per cent; "would pass" starts at 50 %, as in the regulation. It works in the browser, as a Telegram Mini App and inside ChatGPT and Claude. Free: 35 voice minutes a week and a full mock exam once every 7 days. Pro: 140 minutes a week and the mock exam without a weekly limit for 500 Telegram Stars per 30 days.

Where it is weaker: fewer free minutes than Talkpal; the mock exam covers only the oral part, the scale is ours because the official criteria are not published, and pronunciation is not scored in it; there is no grammar course; there is no app in the App Store or Google Play; Pro is paid in Telegram Stars.

Talkpal

Talkpal is a general AI tutor; Polish is one of many languages, and its Polish page exists in Ukrainian and Russian. The free plan gives 10 minutes a day, more free time than any other app here. Premium removes the limit and comes with a 14-day free trial; the site does not show the amount and says prices vary by location. There is no B1 exam mode.

Praktika

Praktika is built around AI avatar tutors you talk to. It is a big app: 4.7 stars from 166,000 ratings in the US App Store. According to its help centre, the free plan gives 3 avatars and core practice, with limited speaking practice and basic feedback; Premium adds unlimited speaking and advanced feedback. Prices vary by plan and region; the US App Store lists purchases from $6.99 up, including $9.99 for one month. The interface is available in 15 languages, including Russian and Polish, but not Ukrainian. We have not tested the quality of its Polish.

Langua

Langua lists Polish among its languages. You can try a conversation for free without subscribing; the Standard plan includes up to 30 minutes of Call Mode a day. Prices are not shown on the page. The site is in eight languages, without Russian or Ukrainian.

Kalbo AI

Kalbo AI is an iPhone app with an AI conversation partner for Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian. The first conversation is free without an account; after that $15.99 a month or $119.99 a year. The interface is in English.

Polish B1 Exam Prep

Polish B1 Exam Prep is an exam app rather than a conversation partner, but it is the closest competitor for the oral part: 800+ tasks, 200+ of them for speaking, where you record your voice, talk with an "examiner" in Polish and get instant feedback. Interface in English, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian; iOS and Android. Some tasks and one mock exam are free; $11.99 a month or $24.99 for 3 months.

ChatGPT and Claude

Both speak Polish well and have free plans with their own limits. What a plain chat lacks is the course around it: no pronunciation score, no review schedule, no record of what you already know. Prompts that fix this are in Polish with ChatGPT and Claude.
