Best apps to learn Lithuanian:
who each one is for

Duolingo and Babbel do not teach Lithuanian, but there are a dozen other tools. Here is what each one does well, what it costs and where it falls short.

Updated October 13, 2026

Short answer. There is no single best app for Lithuanian: Duolingo and Babbel do not offer it, so you combine two or three tools. For an audio start, use Pimsleur; for lessons and flashcards, Ling, Mondly or Clozemaster; for grammar, Treniruoklis 3.0 or Šaunuolė; for speaking with an AI partner, Talkpal, Kalbo AI or Talkfirst; for the A2 exam for permanent residence, Talkfirst (oral part) together with exams.lt or Šaunuolė (written part); for a live teacher, Preply.

We make Talkfirst, one of the apps on this list, so we say plainly where other tools are better. Every price and feature below was checked in October 2026 on the developer's site or in the App Store. Prices are in the currency the source showed and may differ in your country.

Apps for the first weeks

Pimsleur: audio lessons

Pimsleur teaches by ear: you listen, answer out loud and repeat. Its own description of the Lithuanian programme is one level of ten half-hour lessons. It is a good first month if you commute or walk a lot, but it ends early, and the answers you give are to a recording, not to a person who reacts to what you said.

Ling: game-style lessons

Ling has a Lithuanian course with short lessons, dialogues and flashcards. The free plan has limited lessons and dialogue practice with ads; the paid plan is $16.99 a month, $64.99 for six months or $89.99 a year and opens all 40+ languages. Good for a daily habit; it does not have a conversation partner who answers whatever you say.

Mondly: exercises in 41 languages

Mondly by Pearson lists Lithuanian among its 41 languages. Its App Store description promises exercises for speaking, reading, listening and grammar, a chatbot and speech recognition. The app interface comes in English, Russian, Ukrainian and 29 more languages; which of them the Lithuanian course is taught from, we did not check. You can start for free; in the US App Store a subscription is $15.90 a month or $74.90 a year, with a one-week free trial. Like Ling, it is a set of exercises rather than a partner who answers whatever you say.

Words and grammar

Clozemaster and Anki: vocabulary

Clozemaster has Lithuanian sentence lists from English: you fill in the missing word in real sentences. It suits you after the first few hundred words, not on day one. Anki is a free flashcard app for your own decks: the computer version and AnkiDroid are free, the official iOS app is paid.

Treniruoklis 3.0 and Šaunuolė: grammar

Treniruoklis 3.0 is an iPhone and iPad grammar trainer: cases, numerals, verb government, thousands of exercises, interface in English and Russian. Full access is $22.99 a month or $49.99 for six months. Šaunuolė is a free website with grammar exercises, a free 15-task mock test of the written A2 part and Constitution materials; the interface is Russian, English, Ukrainian and Belarusian. Neither has speaking practice.

Speaking practice

This is the gap in most Lithuanian apps: you learn words, but nobody asks you a question you have to answer. Three apps fill it with an AI partner.

Talkpal is a general AI tutor with Lithuanian among many languages, with speech recognition and pronunciation assessment. The free plan gives 10 minutes a day, which is more free time than Talkfirst gives. Paid prices depend on your country.

Kalbo AI is an iPhone app for Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and Polish with an AI speaking partner for everyday situations. Premium is $15.99 a month or $119.99 a year.

Talkfirst is a voice trainer for spoken Lithuanian. You talk out loud with an AI partner from A1, and after each conversation you see your pauses and mistakes explained in English, Russian or Ukrainian. Words from your conversations go into flashcards. Free: 35 voice minutes a week and a full mock exam once every 7 days. Pro: 140 voice minutes a week for 500 Telegram Stars per 30 days. It works in the browser, as a Telegram Mini App and inside ChatGPT and Claude.

Where Talkfirst is weaker: there is no grammar course with tables and drills; there is no app in the App Store or Google Play; Pro is paid with Telegram Stars.

Apps for the A2 exam and the Constitution test

For permanent residence you usually need the state Lithuanian A2 exam and the Constitution exam. The tools split by part:

  • Oral part. The Talkfirst mock A2 exam follows the three tasks of the real oral part: you answer an AI examiner out loud against a timer and get a score from 0 to 10 with comments.
  • Written part. Talkfirst also has reading, writing and listening in the exam format. exams.lt covers the written part of A1, A2 and B1 with passes of €13.90 for 7 days, €23.90 for 30 days or €49.90 for 90 days, interface in Lithuanian, English, Russian and Ukrainian. Šaunuolė's mock test is free.
  • Constitution. The Talkfirst Constitution test repeats the official format: 20 questions in Lithuanian, 45 minutes. exams.lt sells a Constitution-only pass for €5.90 a month; Šaunuolė has a Constitution pack for €29.99.

A live teacher

An app does not replace a teacher who hears you and adjusts the lesson. Preply lists 46 Lithuanian tutors at $13–50 an hour, $29 on average. Lithuania also runs free courses for foreigners, such as the Vilnius programme Aš kalbu, but places are limited.

Which combination to choose

  • You are starting from zero: Pimsleur or Ling for the first sounds and phrases plus 15–20 minutes of speaking a day with an AI partner. See how to learn Lithuanian from zero to A2.
  • You need A2 for permanent residence: Talkfirst for the oral part and conversation, exams.lt or Šaunuolė for the written part, Treniruoklis or Šaunuolė for grammar.
  • You want everything free: Šaunuolė, Anki, Ling's and Talkpal's free plans and the Talkfirst Free plan; for a course, try to get a place on a free state course.
